Frequently Asked Questions

Some Questions You May Have...

Whether you are new to reflexology or have been having reflexology for years, at Roscam Reflexology I understand you may have questions. Below is a list of the most common questions and the answers. However, if your question has not been answered on this list, please feel free to contact me on 087 8311144, email helen@helenkellyenergy.com or use the contact form to ask anything and I will be happy to help.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a simple, natural way to feel better, it is a non-evasive, holistic treatment that can be received on the hands or feet here at Roscam Reflexology. It is a deeply relaxing treatment that benefits your entire being. By working with the reflex points on your hand or feet, I help activate your body's natural healing systems, promoting balance and vitality.

What is African Reflexology?

African Reflexology distinguishes itself from other Reflexology styles in the following ways:

  1. African Reflexology works both feet or hands simultaneously as we are ‘whole beings, not separate parts'.
  2. African Reflexology is a holistic treatment that works very gently yet deeply and effectively.
  3. African Reflexology uses three separate techniques to connect our mind, body and soul during the treatment, leaving you feeling whole and connected within.
Will it hurt or tickle?

African Reflexology is very gentle yet very effective. If you find the pressure too firm or too soft please let me know and I will be happy to adapt the treatment for you. Your comfort is my priority, many people come to me in pain of all sorts, and this Reflexology treatment will help soothe rather than cause extra pain.

Some people say they have sensitive feet and may be concerned that they won’t enjoy the treatment. However, most clients who are worried about it being too “tickly” settle and enjoy the treatment. If it is too much for you though I can always work on the hands, please let me know. Your comfort is my priority.

How often should I have Reflexology?

The number of treatments you will need depends on your ailment or condition, how long you have had it and what you are hoping to achieve. If you are focused on a specific health issue, I would recommend that you have sessions weekly or fortnightly for a month or two, then monthly as a maintenance programme.

If you are having treatments to promote general relaxation and health, then I would suggest one session a month. However, the frequency of treatments are entirely up to you and your own personal preference and budget. It might be once per week, once a fortnight, once per month or even once per year.

I am a member of the Irish Reflexologists Institute and if you have private health insurance you may be able to claim some of the cost back, depending on your policy. Please ask for a receipt and I will email it to you afterwards.

What should I do before a treatment?

It is a good idea not to eat a heavy meal less than an hour before your treatment. If this couldn’t be avoided just let me know and I’ll take it into consideration for your customised treatment. Drinking alcohol before attending your appointment is not advised.

Allow yourself plenty of time to find Roscam Reflexology if this is your first time attending, so that you aren’t late and can make the most of your time here. If you arrive earlier than your appointment, I may be with another client so please wait in your car until I let you know that I’m ready for you.

What should I wear for a Reflexology Session?

Wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your feet. This ensures a smooth transition into the Reflexology treatment without any discomfort.

Do I need to remove any clothing?

For Foot Reflexology you only need to remove your shoes and socks and I will start the treatment by cleansing your feet with a fragrant sanitiser, guaranteeing a clean and hygienic experience.

For Hand Reflexology please remove hand jewellery such as rings or watches. Please wear either a short sleeved top or a top with sleeves that slide up easily up as far as your elbows so that I can access your arms easily for your comfort during the treatment.

How do I find Roscam Reflexology?

I am based at 64 Boireann Bheag, Roscam, Galway, H91 CXW4. There is plenty of free parking opposite my house with the Lilac door.

My treatment room is in my garden, so the side gate of the house will be open for you when I am ready for your appointment and you can come in that way. When it is dark in the evenings the sensor lights will turn on when you approach.

If the side gate is closed when you arrive, I may be delayed with another client so please wait in your car until I call you. Thank you.

Yes, for Reiki and Hand Reflexology sessions.

How will I feel after my Reflexology?

It is possible that following your treatments you may have more energy and feel uplifted. You may alternatively feel more tired or have aches and pains for a day or two. Sometimes your symptoms may actually become worse before they begin to improve.

Despite the temporary discomfort these should be welcomed as it indicates that the body is in the process of cleansing and healing itself. This is known as the HEALING PROCESS. Such symptoms are short lived and will leave you with a greater sense of well-being and harmony.

Do I need to do anything after my Reflexology?

Following your treatment these few simple steps may help to aid or enhance the benefits of reflexology.

  • Rest is important to your body. It not only allows it time to repair itself but helps us to recover from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
  • Eat a healthy, well balanced diet.
  • Fluids are an essential part of life. They aid the body in all its primary functions. Try to increase the amount of water that you drink following your treatment as this helps the body to cleanse itself and to detoxify.
  • Listen to what your body is telling you. If you feel tired, rest. If you feel thirsty, drink. It is amazing what you actually hear.
  • Exercise tones the muscles and increases circulation and elimination. Five minutes of exercise can be enough to release endorphins into the body. These have been shown to improve mood and to give a general feeling of well-being.
  • Xtra time. Remember to set aside a little extra time each day to allow yourself to relax.
